2016: “A Year Here”
As part of our Acts 1:8 Strategy we are dedicating 2016 to mission efforts in our community, with a special emphasis for each month.
October Emphasis: West Alabama Food Bank
“The West Alabama Food Bank works in their nine-county service area procuring food donations to serve a population of over 315,000 residents; over fifteen percent of whom are living in poverty. Over the last 21 years the WAFB has distributed over 17,000,000 pounds of food to households in need through their network of 65 agencies. The WAFB is a member of the Alabama Food Bank Association and an affiliate of Feeding America – The Nation’s Food Bank Network.” Learn more at www.westalabamafoodbank.org.
November Emphasis: Second-Hand Rose Ministry
The Second-Hand Rose Ministry began when a group of First Baptist members began meeting on Monday mornings to repurpose the flowers from the Sanctuary arrangement into smaller arrangements which they then delivered to members who were in area nursing and retirement homes, or homebound. This has grown into a dynamic flower and visitation ministry that uses the Sunday flowers and purchased flowers to create and deliver a multitude of small arrangements each week all over town.
To learn more about this ministry or to get involved, join us on Monday, November 7 at 8:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center as we watch this group at work and see first-hand how they share God’s love in our community.
