The Senior Pastor of
First Baptist Church is
Dr. Gil McKee. Gil is a
native of Houston,
Texas. He and his wife,
Sharon, have been
married since May 22,
1982. They have two
married children – Jason
and Holly. Jason, a
police officer with the
Tuscaloosa Police
Department, is married
to Torrie, who is a
second-grade
teacher. Holly, a
middle-school math
teacher, is married to
Cameron Shipley, a
firefighter and
paramedic with the
Northport, Alabama Fire
Department. |

Gil received his
education from
Hardin-Simmons
University in Abilene,
Texas (B.M.),
Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary in
Fort Worth, Texas
(M.Div.), and Midwestern
Baptist Theological
Seminary in Kansas City,
Missouri (D.Min.). He
has served five churches
as Senior Pastor in
Texas, Missouri, and
Alabama. He has been
the Senior Pastor of
First Baptist Church
Tuscaloosa since April
3, 2000.
In addition to his
pastoral and preaching
responsibilities at
First Baptist Church,
Gil is used extensively
as a preacher/speaker
for conferences,
conventions, revivals,
retreats, and other
miscellaneous
engagements. His weekly
radio and television
ministry, “The Living
Word,” which
features Gil’s
expository and practical
preaching style, reaches
thousands of homes
throughout the state of
Alabama. He is also a
regular guest on an
American Family Radio
talk show that is
broadcast on 145
Christian radio stations
across the nation.
When it comes to Gil’s
vision for First Baptist
Church he simply says:
“I want First Baptist
Church to be the church
God wants it to be. And
I know at the very least
that means multiplying
the Kingdom by reaching
the lost for Christ,
maturing believers into
effective
Christ-followers, and
ministering to our
community in Jesus’
name.”
Gil’s hobbies include
hunting, golf, and
running. He has
completed two marathons,
the St. Jude's Marathon
in Memphis and the
Marine Corps Marathon in
Washington, D.C. His
favorite movies are war
movies and action
films. He has a love for
a variety of music, but
his favorite music is
the music of the 70’s
and the music of
composer John Williams. |
